Invisalign is a clever tool for those who don’t feel they could wear fixed appliances or “train tracks”. However, it may not be for everyone. At Walkinstown Dental Care we assess what is the best treatment for the individual (this assessment is free). Sometimes there is no alternative to train tracks or even surgery, but we will inform you of this and refer you to a qualified orthodontist/specialist if desired. Dr Cromey is an accredited ‘Silver’ Invisalign Doctor. More information can be found at www.invisalign.co.uk
If Invisalign is suitable for you, we will discuss the possibilities and limits of this system.
How does Invisalign® work?
Invisalign® uses 3-D computer imaging technology to depict the complete treatment plan from the initial position to the final desired position from which a series of custom-made “Aligners” are produced. Aligners are nearly invisible and look similar to clear tooth-whitening trays, but are custom-made for a better fit to move teeth. Some orthodontists and dentists have referred to them as “contact lenses for teeth”.
Each “Aligner” moves teeth incrementally and is worn for about two weeks, then replaced by the next in the series until the final position is achieved.
Despite being virtually invisible it is important to realise that normal rules of orthodontics apply. Teeth moving can be sore and often a patient will feel some discomfort when starting a new aligner/retainer!
Despite this it is an incredible tool to straighten crowded or crooked teeth.
What are the primary benefits of Invisalign®?
There are four primary benefits of Invisalign®:
- Invisalign® is nearly invisible – you can straighten your teeth without anyone knowing.
- Invisalign® is removable – you can eat and drink what you want in treatment; you can also brush and floss normally to maintain good oral hygiene.
- Invisalign® is comfortable – there are no metal brackets or wires to cause mouth irritation; no metal or wires also means you spend less time in the doctor’s chair getting adjustments.
- Invisalign® allows you to view your own virtual treatment plan before you start – so you can see how your straight teeth will look when your treatment is complete. (This facility is only available to patients who have made their first payments).
How much does it cost?
Simple cases start at €4500, but most cases will be €5300. This includes all aligners, appointments, retainers at the end of treatment and a course of basic whitening.
A lot of our patients are relapsed child orthodontic patients who have had treatment but ten years later their front teeth have started to cross again
